Hypertension among African & African Americans: THE CONFUSION..
I never understood the Genetic theory which claims that High rates of high blood pressure in African-Americans may be due to the genetic make-up of people of African descent.
However, researchers have uncovered some facts: In Africa, blacks who maintain traditional lifestyles have few problems with high blood pressure.
In the U.S, blacks respond differently to high blood pressure drugs than do other groups of people. Blacks in the U.S. also seem to be more sensitive to salt.
Gets more scarier...
1.African-Americans develop high blood pressure at younger ages than other groups in the U.S.
2.African-Americans are more likely to develop complications associated with high blood pressure. These problems include stroke, kidney disease, blindness, dementia, and heart disease.
What confuses me is, In South Africa, urban blacks and whites eat same food but its blacks who suffers most
On the other hand, btn East and West Africa you will find different if not opposite results from same urban blacks
I think this Hypertension shit is more confusing than say AIDS & CANCER...
