Good police work led Redford cops to a witness whose information led in turn to the arrest of a Redford Twp man suspected of robbing a Chase Bank. Michael Dijon Chapman, 26, was arraigned in Redford's 17th district court Friday on one count of bank robbery. Bond was set at $150,000 dollars.

Tuesday afternoon at about 4:00 PM, a man approached a teller in a Chase Bank at 27275 6 Mile and passed her a note demanding cash. He threatened to kill her if she did not comply. The suspect reached into a pocket suggesting he was armed, though no weapon was actually seen.

The teller gave the suspect stacks of cash, with which he fled on foot.

The Redford police sketch artist drew a composite likeness of the suspect, then the cops burned shoe leather canvassing neighborhoods near the bank. Ultimately they found a witness who recognized the man from the sketch and claimed he had been acting suspiciously. The police obtained an address and a search warrant.

When police executed the warrant at Chapman's home in the 17600 block of Gaylord, they discovered evidence linking the man to the robbery.

Chapman's next appearance will be at a preliminary examination.
