Robber Sprays Clerk With Lighter Fluid
"Give me all the money or I will light you on fire."
Hanover police said the man walked into a Tedeschi's at 1390 Hanover Street at about 10:18 p.m., doused the young, female clerk with the fluid, and said, "Give me all the money or I will light you on fire," as he held a pack of matches in his hand.
The man also told the clerk, "If you scream, I will light you on fire."
"He pulle More..d the lighter fluid out of his pocket and then proceeded to spray her, in a side-to-side motion, from her shoulders to her waist," said Hanover police Lt. Robert Haywood.
The clerk gave the man money, and the robber then fled the store, police said.
"It's horrible, obviously," said customer Susan Lord.
The robber was seen on surveillance video, and was described as a heavyset white man who is about 5 feet 10 inches tall. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, red T-shirt, jeans and black high-top sneakers.
A police dog found his sweatshirt was found a few blocks away. Police said the thief appeared to walk with a gait.
"He had a odd way of walking, kind of a gait, of a duck walking down the street. So, kind of a waddle. So, we're hoping that is a little distinctive, that somebody may have an idea who that may be," said Haywood.
