A 23-year-old Queens woman was gunned down in front of her husband after she refused to give up her purse to a pack of heartless muggers, police said.
The woman, whose name was not immediately released, was walking home with her husband about 9 p.m. Sunday on 204th St. in Hollis when three men wearing red hooded sweatshirts approached and demanded her purse, cops said.
A struggle ensued, and one of the robbers shot her twice in the torso.
The woman was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where she was declared dead, officials said. Her husband was unharmed.
The husband's brother, who only gave his first name, Shameed, said he cannot imagine that his sister-in-law would have fought with her attackers.
"I don't think she put up a fight," he said. "They never go out looking for trouble."
The muggers fled without the purse, cops said. No arrests have been made.
The woman did clerical work at a Manhattan office and her husband is a shopkeeper in Manhattan, Shameed said. He declined to give their names.
"She's a loyal wife and a good person," he said. "I have no idea why anybody would want to attack them."
"They wanted to have children," he said. "They are both loving people. I am still trying to cope with this. This should not have happened at all."
